If humans lay eggs

This morning we were talking with the kids about what it would be like if people were born from eggs. We realized that people would need something with which to break out of the shell, like a beak, or tooth.

At lunch on the back of the SFMOMA receipt I drew a portrait of what our egg born kids might look like. Afterwards they took their new names and saw how many words they could make from them.

Family moods

I tried to capture the moods of each member of the family today.

Eye Exam

Aaah, the joys of being in the forty to whatever demographic. I went to the eye doctor to see if contacts could improve the sight in my right eye where I had a cornea transplant as a kid. No luck.

However, since I’m now in my forties the doctor recommended that I get reading glasses. Actually computer glasses. I guess I’ll look very professorial. Maybe I’ll get glittery star shaped ones like Bootsy Collins.

Ginger

Tuesday, 3:30am. I woke up to find my dog Ginger shaking in the corner with vomit, pee and poop around her. I wrapped her in a towel and drove her to the vet. The fog was so thick I had to slow down to 15 mph. After an examination the vet thought it was vestibular disease, a common ailment of older dogs where they lose their sense of balance.

The next day, after x-rays, they found a lump near her bladder and they wanted to operate. However, after observing her overnight they realized that something more serious was wrong, most likely a lesion in the brain. We went down to the hospital and had her put to sleep.

I hadn’t intended for this drawing to be so sad, I was just trying to capture that night as it was. Ginger, I’ll miss you.
